Call for Performers 2008

The Call for Performers 2008 is an exciting opportunity for those starting out on a performing career to perform in public at York’s Late Music Festival and gain experience performing on a public stage.

In 2007 the Call began and attracted serious interest from some very talented artists.

The performers finally chosen were the excellent Ossian Ensemble, Cerys Jones and Eva Zöellner.

CALL FOR PERFORMERS 2008 GUIDELINES

The 2008 Call for performers is open to anyone, but aimed at postgraduate or recent alumni who are starting out on serious performance careers, either as soloists or in groups.

Any size group is able to apply, but due to a limited budget, chamber groups or soloists are more likely to succeed.

Those successful will most likely be given an opportunity to perform in a weekend lunchtime concert and a small fee, to be determined. Travel and Accommodation expenses can be negotiated.

Applications can take any format, but most attention will be given to the applicants that supply the following:-

  • A Curriculum Vitae or Résumé detailing the soloist/group’s previous experience.
  • An up-to-date repertoire list, with emphasis on contemporary music.
  • One or more proposals for a lunchtime concert.
  • A recorded sample of your work.

Our primary goal as a festival is to promote the most up-to-date, cutting edge new music to our audience, but part of our success relies also on appealing to an existing consumer base that recognizes mainstream composers.

In addition the main themes for the festival this year focus on 1)Messiaen and his influences (as a celebration of 100 years since his birth), 2) Electroaccoustics, including a look at found sound and Music Concrète and 3) theatre-based works. Other ideas for programs are equally sought.
